A young dragonfly, named Speedy, was
very happy to get his mother’s permission to fly. He failed many times, but he
kept trying after he saw many dragonflies flying around him. It motivated him
to keep trying. Day-by-day he learned to fly tirelessly, and finally he succeeded.
He flied around his house, then he tried to fly even further.
Shortly, he had many
friends. His friends asked him to play more further away from home. They played
together a couple of days and it made ‘Speedy’ the young dragonfly was very
happy. He neglected his mother’s advice for not going too far away from home.
One day when Speedy was
out with his friends, they were confronted by an ‘hoodlum’ praying mantis. The
praying mantis scared them and they flew away in fear. Speedy was scared to
face the ‘hoodlum’ mantis. He hid under water among the lotus roots. He was
fearful and panicked to think that he could not go home. His mother would be so
angry.
His mother was worried
when Speedy did not come home until the afternoon. She asked Speedy’s friends
where he was. They told her where they were on the day and who scared them. The
mother was more anxious and she was looking for her son at the place he played.
She flew here and there while she was calling out his name.
Finally, the mother
found her son behind a big stone. Speedy looked fearful. She tried to make him
calm and asked him to go home. When they were at home, Speedy told his mother
about his experience on that day and he said that he was afraid with the ‘hoodlum’
praying mantis. The mother advised him for not being afraid with the ‘hoodlum’.
Speedy should put up a fight if the mantis bother him again.
One day when Speedy
played with his friends around his house, the ‘hoodlum’ praying mantis came.
His scary smile made him even more scary, but Speedy tried not to be afraid.
When the mantis bothered him again, Speedy challenged him to a flying race. The
fastest will be the leader of the thugs. The praying mantis agreed, but
unfortunately he lost the match. The mantis was ashamed to admit the greatness
of Speedy. Then, Speedy became the leader of the thugs and they could not
bother dragonflies again.
