The Gift of Fire

  Long ago in ancient Greece, the gods lived on Mount Olympus. They were strong and immortal. Humans lived on Earth, but their lives were very difficult. They had no fire, so they ate raw food and felt cold at night. A kind Titan named Prometheus watched the humans every day. He felt sad for them because they suffered so much. Prometheus believed humans deserved a better life. One night, he quietly climbed Mount Olympus. He took a small flame from the gods’ fire and hid it inside a hollow stick. Prometheus brought the fire to Earth and gave it to humans. Humans were amazed. With fire, they could cook food, stay warm, and make tools. Their lives slowly became better. They thanked Prometheus and used fire wisely. When Zeus, the king of the gods, found out, he was very angry. He punished Prometheus for breaking the rules.
