The Mouse Deer and the Crocodile

Shika was a female mouse deer. She was very smart to find any solution. One day, she was very hungry. Shika walked along the river and she remembered a cucumber garden across the river. Unfortunately, there was no bridge there. While she was thinking of how to cross the river, suddenly a wicked Buya, the crocodile, appeared. It surprised Shika.

When Buya opened his mouth widely for eating Shika, the smart mouse deer stopped him, “Wait a minute Buya. I think you are selfish.” Buya was astonished. “Am I? Why do you say so?” “You want to eat me by yourself. Why don’t you invite your friends for a feast?” said Shika. Without thinking twice, Buya left her to call his friends. After awhile, Buya came with his friends and said, “We are here now. What is your wish before we eat you?” Shika said, “Let me count you all. Line up from here to there.” Those crocodiles lined up as instructed and Shika jumped while counting.

“One…two…three…four…five…six…seven…eight,” then she jumped onto land. “You are eight. I think I am too small for you. I will call my friends, wait for me here.” Shika ran quickly. The crocodiles waited for some times and realized that they were tricked by the mouse deer. They were angry to Buya and left him alone.

Moral of the story: You have to be smart in making decision to save your life.
