The Mouse Deer and the Dog

In a small village, there was a cucumber farmer who planted many cucumbers and sold them to a city market. The farmer fenced his field with barbed wire to prevent wild animals from entering his field. He also sent a dog to guard the field. He felt secured with that.

One day, a mouse deer was starving. She wandered here and there to look for food, and finally she came to the field. She saw ripe cucumbers, but she couldn’t pass the barbed wire fence.

“I must have a brilliant idea,” she thought. She found dragon fruit plant near the field. The smart mouse deer picked a dragon fruit and applied it to his left foot. Then, she was back to the field.

“Help me….help me, somebody help me!” She cried while walking with a limp. The dog noticed her and walked up to her. “What’s the matter with you?” asked the dog. “I fell on the rocks at the end of the road. I need medicine to cure my injured leg,” said the mouse deer sadly. “What kind of medicine do you need?” aske the worried dog. “My ancestors said that the best medicine for sore like this is to eat some cucumbers. That’s why I’d like to ask you to give me some.”

Without thinking twice, the dog gave her three cucumbers to cure her wounded foot. The starving mouse deer ate them greedily. She thanked the kind-hearted dog and left the field with a smile.

Moral of the story: Don’t steal anything. It’s better to ask someone to give what you want
