In her childhood, Claudia had wanted to be a professional dancer. She liked traditional dances. Her mother had joined her into a dance club in which Claudia learned many kinds of traditional dances.
Claudia was 9 years old when her dance club offered her an opportunity to attend a dance competition. Claudia enthusiastically attended it. Her parents permit it as well. Day-by-day Claudia learned Balinese dance with her dance teacher. She didn’t give up although the dance was very difficult to learn.
On that day, her parents and the dance teacher accompanied her in the competition. Claudia looked anxious. “Why are you gloomy?” asked her teacher. “I’m not sure that I can win this competition, teacher,” she answered. Her dance teacher smiled and patted her shoulder, “Do your very best. I’m sure that you can manage your anxiety.” Claudia nodded. She felt calm.
The competition could be passed well. Although many participants danced well, Claudia tried to manage her anxiety and she was successful to dance beautifully. Unexpectedly, she won the competition. Her parents and the dance teacher proudly hugged her. “You solved your worry, Claudia. Good job!” said the teacher. “Thank you, teacher. You cheered me up,” Claudia answered happily.
Since then, Claudia had practiced traditional dances seriously. She also attended many dance competitions and successfully joined the national dance competitions. Claudia was proud of her achievement. Then one day, her teacher asked, “Claudia, I want to offer you something. Our team will have an opportunity to join a dance competition abroad. Do you want to join?” Claudia was cheering. “I love to, teacher. I will attend the competition”. Her teacher continued, “So, you have to do more practices for that. Can you manage your school activities and dancing schedules?” “Yes, I can, teacher. I won’t miss it. I will practice seriously,” she said with sparkling eyes. Her dance teacher patted her shoulder, “Good. Prepare yourself!”
A couple of months later, Claudia and her dance team attended the dance competition in Paris, France. They danced Ondel-Ondel Dance from Betawi. Surprisingly, they was the champion in junior high school category. Claudia was proud and happy for her achievements. She said, “I reach my dream. I will practice dancing seriously and make my big dream come true. One day, I will be a professional dancer.”
