One cold winter day, a girl named
Aiko walked through the streets of Tokyo. The wind was strong, and her hands
were cold. She wanted something warm to eat. Suddenly, she smelled something
very nice.
It was the smell of ramen —
hot Japanese noodle soup!
Aiko followed the smell to a small
ramen shop. The shop was old, but it looked warm and cozy. An old man, the
chef, smiled at her and said, "Irasshaimase! Douzo ozawarite kudasai. (Welcome!
Please sit down)."
Aiko sat at the table. Soon, the
chef brought her a big bowl of ramen. The soup was hot and the noodles were
soft. There were also eggs, seaweed, and slices of pork on top. Aiko tasted the
ramen. It was the best food she had ever eaten!
"Wow! This ramen is so
delicious!" Aiko said.
The chef laughed and said, "This recipe is very old. My father taught me, and his father taught him."
Aiko finished the bowl and felt warm and happy. She said thank you and promised to come back. From that day, Aiko visited the ramen shop every winter.
