Tom was walking home from school when dark clouds covered the sky. Soon, heavy rain began to fall, and students ran in all directions. Tom opened his bright blue umbrella and walked carefully. On the sidewalk, he saw a little girl standing alone. She had no umbrella and was getting very wet. Tom felt sorry for her and asked, “Do you want to share my umbrella?”
The little girl smiled and nodded. Together, they walked under a small umbrella. As they walked, the girl told Tom that she was new in town and didn’t know many people yet. Tom listened kindly and promised to be her friend. The rain kept falling, but Tom didn’t mind because he was happy to help someone.
When they reached the girl’s house, she waved goodbye and ran inside. Suddenly, Tom noticed that his umbrella felt lighter. He looked up and gasped—the umbrella had turned completely golden! A tiny note appeared on the handle that said, “Thank you for your kindness. —From a Forest Fairy.” Tom realized the little girl was not an ordinary girl at all. Smiling in surprise, he walked home with his magical new umbrella.
